Another one of my favorite songs--and another song where I honestly don't know what the lyrics are about. Ah well, such is the fate of a Hirasawa fan...

Hirasawa Susumu - "In the Square"

At this rate everything will freeze over*
In the tower that rose so very high
There's nothing
I saw it late at night in the square**
In this burning déjà vu
I'll go visit you

Night is coming, leap to your feet!
You better not fall behind
You'll be punished if you fall behind

Even if I live like it's winter
The golden boat will come
With a subdued voice
I dreamed of it as I came from far away
Digging up many tons of earth
And filling up the hole again today

The boat is coming, leap to your feet!
You better not fall behind
You'll be punished if you fall behind

A giant door opens up  A door of limitless eternity
That much, that much has come into sight!

A giant door opens up  A door of limitless eternity
That much, that much has come into sight!

A giant door opens up  A door of limitless eternity
That much, that much has come into sight!

A giant door opens up  A door of limitless eternity
That much, that much has come into sight!

A giant door opens up  A door of limitless eternity
That much, that much has come into sight!

A giant door opens up  A door of limitless eternity
That much, that much has come into sight!

It should have appeared small
But that tower rose so very high
And the boat leaves from the tower
Even if I live like it's winter
The sun will shine without exception
The shadows are like flowers

Morning is coming, leap to your feet!
You better not fall behind
You'll be punished if you fall behind

Translation Notes:
* The line "すべては凍る" ("everything will freeze") reminds me of the "凍る星" ("freezing planet") in the P-Model song "Enola." In "Enola" someone in a rocket ship contacts a freezing planet after learning of its tragic fate. "In the Square" was released on an album in 1994, and "Enola" was released on an album in 1997--would it be too crazy to think "Enola" could be an outsider's view of what happened to the world in "In the Square"? ^^

**The "square" is a town square or a plaza. I like to think that maybe this is the same square as in "Phonon Belt" (from 2009), since both songs describe a place with a town square and a giant tower.
