P-Model - "Big Foot" Lyrics

Despite the title, this song is NOT about the legendary Bigfoot. (Though Mr. Hirasawa said in the Music Industrial Wastes: P-Model Side book that he doesn't mind at all if you think the album is about a Yeti.)

It's hard to say what this song is actually about, though. (I think I'll eventually translate a description of the album Big Body that I found helpful.) The overall concept seems to be about the interconnectedness of humans and technology, so in that context, a lot of the words in this song (like "stack") relate to computer programming.

My personal image of the song is actually that a computer component or program is singing to the computer user. The computer or program is shuffling data around as fast as possible, adding things to the stack (which is like a stock of data) and making things happen without actually engaging in any physical movement. It rests when there's no operation to carry out. And it can hear the user's commands, though maybe the user is a mythical being, something people think exists and no one can prove--kinda like Bigfoot. ;)

P-Model - "Waste Cabaret" Lyrics

"Waste Cabaret" is a song from 1999 (I think), but it feels incredibly relevant to the current state of the world: political movements, harsh military action, terrorism, unemployment, wasted lives, and terrible entertainment. Or at least that's what I think of with this song. XD

I sort of feel like this song would not have been out of place on the later Kaku_P Vistoron album.

This song is hard to translate because a lot of lines feel incomplete (verbs are missing entirely, etc.). To make the sentences work, though, I sometimes had to put in verb that isn't in the original. Also, the "ha!" that the singer interjects in every verse breaks up the lines in a weird way and almost seems to be a form of censorship or at least a sign that whatever's happening is unspeakable. I did my best to incorporate the feeling, but suggestions are always welcome, of course.

P-Model -「サンシャイン・シティー」/ P-Model - "Sunshine City" Lyrics

I can never decide if I love OLD P-Model songs because of their own inherent qualities or because the contrast with later P-Model/Hirasawa is so interesting. "Sunshine City" is a nice punk-ish song, with music by Tanaka and lyrics by Mr. Hirasawa's own older brother. :)

Incidentally, the song "Sunshine City" is from a 1979 album. In 1978, the Sunshine City area of Tokyo opened up--a very visible symbol of Japan's economic booms in the 1960s and 1970s. Moreover, (as noted in the comments on the LJ version of this post) it was built on the former site of Sugamo Prison, which housed first political prisoners of the Japanese and later war criminals arrested by the Allied Occupation. WELL THEN.

P-Model - "Sophisticated" Lyrics

I can't find the lyrics for P-Model's "Sophisticated" (which happen to be in English), so I am going to write down what I hear. (Corrections are always welcome.) This song is awesome, both for it's extremely socially critical content and the GLORIOUS little electronic blips and squeaks and clicks, which are particularly awesome when you listen to this song with headphones.

P-Model - "Sophisticated"

Sophisticated, the supermarket
Sophisticated, the apartment
Sophisticated, the fried chicken*
Sophisticated, the make-up hanging up

Sophisticated, the speaking thinking
Sophisticated, the masturbation
Sophisticated, the Japanese girls
Sophisticated, the Japanese boys

Sophisticated  television image
Sophisticated, the school boys' deaths**
Sophisticated, the music play
Sophisticated, the foreign language song

P-Model - "Frozen Beach" Lyrics

If I understand this correctly, "Frozen Beach" was released by P-Model in 1984 and again in 1989, then covered by Mr. Hirasawa on his first solo album in 1989, and subsequently remixed by P-Model in 1995. O_o What a song. My favorite is the super-techno version from Scuba Recycle in 1995. This song made me realize that--like in "Venus" or maybe "Mermaid Song"--Hirasawa really does use the motif of drowning/being submerged in water as the way to meet with "you" again fairly often. Interesting.

P-Model - "Moon Plant-II"

This song feels like a Hirasawa-style lullaby. (...um.) I love all the fun electro sound effects bouncing along over and under the piano.♥ It's really a nice little gem of a song even if it is about the joys of satellite radio AGAIN.

P-Model - "Layer-Green" Lyrics

This song...I don't know why, but this song almost makes me want to cry every time I hear it. But I feel this way about most P-Model/Hirasawa songs that fall into the "Weird Sort-of Love Songs...IN SPACE!" category. (Yes, that is a legitimate category for me.)

P-Model - "Homo Gestalt"

Here's a song where you can see Mr. Hirasawa's love for classic sci-fi novels very clearly. This song could also be called "Greek Prefixes: The Musical".

Now, regarding the title: What is Homo and what is Gestalt? And what is a Homo Gestalt? )

So the song hints at a sort of global or group consciousness. But it could also be about the joys of satellite radio. (For real. See footnote 2 in the translation notes below.)

P-MODEL - "SPEED TUBE" Lyrics

Oh boy, now here's a song where I have no idea what's going on. There are no "Notes" for this one since I really have no clue. Still, it's such an energetic and intriguing techno song that I can't help but take a stab at the lyrics.

P-MODEL - "ENOLA"

The following song, "Enola," is from the 1997 P-Model album Electronic Tragedy/~ENOLA. It was also used later for other things. ) How you might connect the song to the Enola Gay of atomic bombing infamy is another story.
